Hot melt adhesives based on ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers - reacted with alkyd resins and organic peroxides

Hot melt adhesives contain modified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers produced by heating a mixt. of (1) 99.7-20 wt. % ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer with vinyl acetate content of 5-50 wt. % and melt index 1-400 g/10 min., (2) 0.3-80 wt. % unsatd. alkyd resin from esterification of an unsatd. acid and a polyhydric alcohol, and (3) 0.05-5 wt. % organic peroxide. The adhesives are easily formed into pellets, powder, film or foil, and laminated layers, and are suitable for bonding metals and other materials and for lamination. Excellent adhesive properties are obtain ed by addn. of even small amounts, compared with addn. of usual tackifiers e.g. rosins, aromatic petroleum resins etc.
