An adjustable catch for windows, doors, shutters and the like of the type having a catch bar pivotally mounted at one end in a catch bracket and capable of being moved into and out of engagement with a separate catch fitting. The catch bar has disposed on at least one long side thereof an elongated groove presenting a number of distinct latching positions, and located at one end of the bar is a wedge-shaped portion. The separate catch fitting has at least one laterally extending latching element intended to engage the latching positions along the bar and which is sprung back by the wedge-shaped portion when engaging the catch bar with the catch fitting and which snaps into the groove, when pressure from the wedge-shaped portion is removed. Accidental removal of the latching element from the groove is prevented by raised surfaces extending peripherally of the groove, while at least one recess is formed in the raised surfaces to permit intentional withdrawal of the latching element from the groove.
|
