1470023 Balloon catheters WESTERN ACADIA INC 30 June 1975 [25 July 1974] 27575/75 Heading A5R A silicone catheter comprises an extruded tubular body 10, Fig. 2, having a primary lumen 12 and an inflation lumen 14, the tubular body having a hole 18 to permit comunication between lumen 14 and the exterior of the tubular body, a thermoplastic tape 20 contacting the exterior of body 10 in the region of hole 18 and having an opening 28 in communication with hole 18, an outer layer 32 of covering material, which covers but does not adhere to tape 20, covering the exterior of the tubular body including a semispherical tip 16 moulded onto the distal end of the body, and oval holes 26 being formed in the covered body 10 to permit communication between the primary lumen and the exterior of the covered tubular body. The tape may be inflated through lumen 14 to form an anchoring balloon 30, Fig. 4. The tape comprises polyethylene or polypropylene which melts at a temperature below the covering whereby opening 28 may be formed by applying a hot probe to the outer covering over hole 18 to melt tape 20 but not said covering. |
