A belt retractor blocking mechanism is actuated by an inertia mass. The assembly can be fitted in the vehicle in any given position without detrimental effect of the actuating device operation. The relevant part of the design is the way in which the actuating assembly (4) is fitted on the housing in a housing (11) in such a way that it is rotatably adjustable around the axis (12) whereby deviations from the vertical of the retractor housing can compensated. The actuating assembly consists of inertia element (8) with stem and enlarged rim (9) at the bottom by which is rests on the base of the housing (11). The base is provided with an opening (10) through which a lug at the bottom and of the inertia element is in contact with a corresponding lug of the toggle lever (15) with one leg pivoting around a point (14) and the other end provided with an inclined surface (18).
