A locking device for three-point anchor seat belts can be operated by one hand. The locking device (1) has a catch mechanism at one end and a swivelling locking arm (2) at the other end. The free end of the locking arm has a tip (3) which engages with the catch mechanism, when the arm (2) is swung into locking position. The side of the locking arm (2) is fitted with an operating arm (5) riveted to the side surface of the arm, so that it swivels together with the arm. To carry out the locking of the belt after it has been put on, the user inserts the thumb of one hand into the strap creating a loop. Subsequently sufficient length of strap is coiled-off off from the retractor spool to be able to slip the loop onto the locking arm (2). At the same time the thumb inserted into the loop comes to rest on the horizontal surface of the operating arm.
