A carding engine taker-in has an associated trash knife behind which is a hinged plate forming with the lower surface of the taker-in a wedge-shaped space which narrows in the direction of rotation. The trash knife is in the form of a thin plate whose length is equal to at least half the dia. of the taker-in and whose blade is set behind the feed table at a distance equal to between 1/8 and 1/4 of the dia. The free edge of the hinged plate is 2-5 mm. behind the knife blade. A smooth air flow is created behind the trash knife which ensures the sepn. from the cotton of the majority of the dust which it contains, giving more efficient, less troublesome operation in subsequent processing.
|
