PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for removing phosphorus in which the clogging of the aeration holes of an aeration pipe in an electrolytic cell with sludge can be prevented. SOLUTION: The apparatus P1 for removing phosphorus has an electrolytic cell 1 with an inflow port 21 and an outflow port 22, many pairs of electrodes 2, 3 arranged in the cell 1 in a suspended state, electrode holders 4 for holding the electrodes 2, 3 and a DC power source for supplying electric current for electrolysis between the electrodes 2, 3. The electrodes 2, 3 are made of iron, and iron ions for removing phosphoric acid in water are leached from the electrodes by electrolysis. The cell 1 has a curved shape with a nearly semielliptic longitudinal section and a nearly elliptic cross section so that part of sludge produced by electrolysis can be discharged from the cell 1 by a circulating flow based on a flow of water from the inflow port 21 to the outflow port 22.
