The clinch nut has teeth, and a conical collar (12). Between the body and the collar is a sharp-edged groove (7). It is intended to fit in a hole (3) the diameter of which is greater than that of the parts between the teeth evenly distributed around the periphery of the collar. - After insertion, the nut (1) can be turned half a tooth (4) division, and the distance between facing tooth flanks is essentially equal to the width of a tooth. These facing flanks extend inwardly to the extent that they meet in the bottom of the inter-tooth parts.
