Parent patent discloses the recovery of N-rich solids by passing a protein-rich waste water, from milk- or dairy prod. processing, through a synthetic filter medium. Waste water pH is set to 3-6, so that fungi having a high N-content are preferentially grown on the wetted surfaces inside the filter medium. The N-rich solids leaving the filter medium are then separated and recovered. In this addn. the fungus culture contains Geotrichum Candidum, (I), and/or Fusarium tabacinum, (II) The dried solids can be used as animal feedstuff additives, soil conditioners or fertilisers. The N-content of the dried solids is increased from e.g. 2 wt. % to /~55 wt.%. The dry wt. of the solids makes up 50 wt.% of BOD removed through filter. |
