Corona discharge surface treatment of sheet material - esp. of plastic material, using at least one cooled and insulation coated electrode

Sheet material is treated by passing it between a pair of corona discharge electrodes one of which is coated with an insulation material and has a cooling fluid flowing through it. Used esp. for corona discharge treatment of plastics film to improve the surface adhesion characteristics. For high prodn. rate the discharge density has to be high, which increases the heat generated in the electrode, and the heat can cause deterioration of the electrode insulation. Cooling of the electrode removes the heat, preserving the electrode.
