PURPOSE:To produce CO and H2 as well as benzene by reacting an alkylbenzene with carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst containing palladium and an oxide of an element selected from alkaline-earth element and rare-earth element, thereby dealkylating the alkylbenzene. CONSTITUTION:An alkylbenzene is dealkylated by reacting with carbon dioxide to produce benzene, carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The reaction is carried out in the presence or a catalyst containing palladium and at least one kind of oxide selected from alkaline-earth metal oxides (e.g., MgO, CaO, SrO or BaO) and rare-earth metal oxides (e.g., Y2O3, La2O3, CeO2 or Nd2O3) (preferably Pd-CeO2, Pd-Y2O3, Pd-La2O3, Pd-MgO, etc.) preferably supported on a carrier such as alumina. |
