Warp yarn which contains cellulose fibre and is intended in particular for denim articles is dyed with indigo vat as a parallel yarn sheet in an abbreviated process, namely in only 1 to 3 passes. Each pass is followed as usual by an oxidation in air. Then the dyed yarn has applied to it a salt of a polyacrylic acid. The yarn, or the sheet material produced after the polyacrylate has been applied, is then subjected to an acid treatment. Finally, the textile sheet material is provided with a crosslinking resin finish. The result of these operations is an indigo-dyed textile material having the same properties as the prior art materials, except that the new process is significantly more environment-friendly, rapid and energy-saving and the apparatus used for it is simpler.
