<p>Between two inking rollers (11, 12) of the printing machine is installed an ink density monitor (13). This employs a transparent roller (14) between the other two, and in contact with them. This roller can be at least partly hydrophilic. In the middle is installed light source (16) whose rays are received by a measuring infra red detector (18) and an equalising infra red detector (19) with respective filters (20, 24). The transparent roller which may be of glass is in contact with rollers which apply coloured ink and moisture, and can be swung alternately to be in contact with eithr, selectively. The system can carry out a continuous monitoring of the ink density and be used to control the amount of the moistening fluid applied. It can be used where this fluid is oil or water, and the monitoring roller can have hydrophilic and oleophilic regions.</p> |
