PURPOSE:To prevent abnormal decrease in voltage of an alkaline battery under a specific discharge condition even when a negative electrode active material of low hardening is used for fabrication by using a nonwoven fabric where natural pulp specifically treated with alkali is mixed with synthetic fibers of such as vinylon or rayon. CONSTITUTION:In a battery which uses zinc alloy powder including aluminum with a hardening of 1.5% or less as a negative electrode active material, a nonwoven fabric, in which natural pulp such as linter pulp or marcerization pulp which is undergone 6 to 12 hours of dipping process in a strong base aqueous solution of 30 to 45wt.% in concentration heated up to 30 to 70 deg.C is mixed and woven together with synthetic fibers of such as vinylon or rayon, is used as a separator. A trace level of lignin, hemicellulose, and organic acid which are thus included in the separator as residual components are completely removed away. Abnormal decrease in voltage in the middle of the discharge of a low hardening alkaline battery can be thus prevented. |
