It comprises a main body (1) provided with a shut-off flange (2) having a seal and with a tie rod (4) having a small anchor cross bar (5), operated by means of an external hand wheel. The hand wheel (7) which is integral with a small threaded shaft which screws into the tie rod (4) enables the flange to be tightened over the opening of the casing (10). Another, larger flange but still having a seal contained within a small circular border, can be fitted onto the normal flange and in this case the tie rod can be replaced with another, larger one, thereby enabling the device to be adapted to the various sizes of gate valve casings. <IMAGE>
