NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic FA-2713 I or II. FA-2713 I, neutral white powder; elementary analysis: C, 60.1%; H, 8.1%; N, 4.3%; melting point: 130- 131 deg.C (decomposition); paper chromatography (developing solvent: n-butanol saturated with water): Rf=0.72; FA-2713 II, neutral white powder; elementary analysis: e, 60.8%; H, 7.9%; N, 4.5%; melting point: 117-120 deg.C(decomposition); paper chromatography (the same condition as described above): Rf=0.70. USE:Antibiotics, remedies for microbism, protectants of plants against blight (sheath blight of rice plants). PROCESS:Strains of Streptomyces hygroscopicus FA-2713 (FERM-P No.4497) are cultured in a nutrient medium, and an antibiotic FA-2713 I or II is collected from the cultured substance.
