A main carrier modulated with picture signal and sync. information, and an auxiliary carrier modulated with sound and pilot signal information, is a recorded on a video disc record 64. The frequencies of the synchronizing and pilot signal components are such that an integral number of synchronizing components and a non-integral number of pilot signal cycles occupy each convolution of the spiral track. The playback system includes circuitry 70,88 for recovering the pilot signal, and further circuitry 90,92 responsive to the deviations in the phase of the recovered pilot signal for developing an error signal indicative of the magnitude and sense of a sudden shift in the radial location of the stylus. The playback system includes an apparatus, responsive to an actuating signal 92 output, for twisting a stylus- carrying arm about its longitudinal axis which results in skipping motion of the stylus tip across track convolutions on the record. <IMAGE> |
