<p>Stitch selector mechanism for a zigzag sewing machine having multiple pattern-cams, one of which has a follower which is moved by the rotation of a stitch-selector dial, wherein a solenoid mechanism activated by depression of the stitch-selector dial automatically disengages the needle bar drive, the zigzag cam follower, the fabric feed follower and the needle position control mechanism before the selector dial is rotated to a new setting. The mechanisms are locked in the disengaged position until the sewing operation is restarted, when they are automatically re-engaged and the solenoid returned to its original position by a return spring. Stitch pattern can be changed simply and rapidly by the operation of a single control dia, permitting the operator to work faster and more productively. The device does not limit the versatility of the patterning mechanism.</p> |
