PURPOSE:To form the image display device which will not cause failure as against temperature changes by forming an enclosure by an insulation substrate and a light transmittable window plate as well as a sealing material composed of elastic material connecting and hermetically sealing the abovementioned both and sealing an electrochemical coloring solution therein. CONSTITUTION:An insulation substrate 1 such as of ceramics, glass or other provided with an anode 6 and a light transmittable window plate 2 provided with a code displaying cathode 5 nearly parallel thereto are connected and hermetically sealed by a sealing strip 3 composed of, e.g., W-form elastic material by way of an insulating adhesive 8 to form an enclosure 4, into which electrochemical coloring liquid 7 is sealed, whereby the electrochromic display (ED) is formed. The use of the sealing strip 3 of elastic material as the structural element of the enclosure 4 in this way lets the deformation of the enclosure 4 to be absorbed by the reversible deformation of the abovementioned sealing strip even if the electrochemical coloring solution having been sealed in the enclosure 4 expands owing to temperature change, thus failure of the image display device is averted. |
