Droplets of an emulsion are suspended in a continuous liq. phase comprising >=1 reactant. The emulsion comprises an interior phase comprising a co-reactant capable of reacting with the reactant upon breaking the emulsion and an exterior phase which is immiscible with the continuous liq. phase and impermeable to the reactant and co-reactant. The compsn. may be an adhesive system activated by breaking the emulsion by heat and/or press. It can also be a controlled release dye, monomer-catalyst or monomer-catalyst-inhibitor-inhibitor scavenger system. Reactant emulsification is generally less complex than solid microcapsule formation. The application by spraying the liq. compsn. is simpler than spraying solid capsules. Inert matter is easily removed by evaporation. The use of an amine hardener-epoxy resin, polyfunctional isocyanate-amine or hydroxy terminated prepolymer or polysulphide-Pb oxide reactant-coreactant system, and sorbitan monooleate as the surfactant for the emulsion is claimed.
