The X-ray device comprises a closed array of consecutively flashable X-ray sources (3) arranged in a plane encircling the object (7) to be examined. A closed array of at least partially transparent radiation detectors (5) is arranged in the plane of, and within, the source array. The X-ray sources (3) emit a beam which penetrates the adjacent detectors (5) so as to irradiate the object from different directions. Transmitted radiation is measured by those detectors (5) which lie behind object (7) as viewed from the source which is emitting radiation at the relevant instant.
