The container dispenses metered quantities of powdery material, particularly snuff. A movable impeller inside the container ejects the material from a preliminary metering chamber through a discharge opening. This can be moved away from the latter against spring action into a cocked position. The impeller is in the form of a hinging spoon (36), forming the metering chamber (48) in conjunction with portions of the container inner walls (26, 28). The spoon can be mounted in a mechanical portion, detachable from a storage portion holding the material.
