A flat-shaped solar energy collector incorporating laminar flow confines a thin film of water, about 1 mm thick, the surface of which is equal to the whole surface of the collector and which is obtd. by a box of prismatic form having two faces of large area sepd. by a short distance. The sheets forming the faces are closed hermetically at the sides. One face is exposed to the sun and is made pref. of metal covered with a material, e.g. a paint, to increase the coeff. of absorption of solar energy. The box has an inlet and an outlet for water and a thermostatic controller, and separators are placed between the faces to maintain them 1 mm apart. Insulation is placed on the rear face and a sheet of glass or plastic material below defines an air space. The whole is placed in an outer structure and held in it. The collector is of simple construction and less costly than existing collectors. The material of construction can be selected according to the quality and cost required. The overall efficiency is high, no loss of water from vaporisation occurs and the quantity of water can be regulated. |
