<p>A tyre with radial carcass plies includes in the tread region, a band of high strength metal or plastic held in position by the carcass plies. A material for the band is 0.060 gauge 4130 steel heat treated to 180,000 psi. The band is pref. arcuate in cross section and may be corrugated in the circumferential direction. The band adequately supports the tyre during loss of pressure but does not adversely effect the normal running performance. Indeed by altering the nature of the band the tyre footprint may be altered and a tyre formed with an elongated footprint which shows decreased "buildozing" in soft earth.</p> |
