The separator for a potato harvester has a separator belt, which has elastic protuberances on the surface and a roller with an elastic surface. The elastic surface runs in helical strips (27) over the length of the rollers (6, 7, 8). Between the strips (27) are regions which run helically below the elastic surface of the roller. Several rollers can be arranged close to each other and the regions which run below the elastic surface of the rollers (6, 7, 8) are in the form of channels.
