Special knife for opening mail bag - has blade guard secured inside handle with single screw

A special knife for cutting open mail bags has a blade (2) with its cutting edge protected by a guard (4). The blade and guard are fitted in a common handle (5) which consists of two similar pieces held together by rivets (7) which pass through holes in the blade. The guard is retained by a single screw (8) which passes through a hole in a lug projecting from the inner section of the guard. This lug fits inside a recess cut out of the blade so that there is no overlapping of blade and guard. This is more compact than existing knives.
