TREATMENT OF NEUROFIBROMATOSIS WITH INHIBITORS OF A SIGNAL TRANSDUCTION PATHWAY

<p>The invention includes methods of treating, preventing or ameliorating tumors or symptoms resulting from neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) in a subject by administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of at least one PI3K/AKT pathway signaling inhibitor or compound which inhibits or slows growth of one or more NF2-deficient tumors or associated symptoms as compared to no treatment with a PI3K/AKT pathway inhibitor. Also includes are methods of inhibiting the growth of NF2-deficient tumors by contacting NF2-deficient tumor cells with an inhibitor or compound that inhibits the activity of one or more proteins of the PI3K/AKT pathway. The invention also includes methods of screening a test compound for treatment of NF2 and related conditions by treating NF2 deficient cells with the compound and assessing a decrease in activity of one or more PI3K/AKT pathway proteins.</p>
