<p>Lubricating oil compsns. contg. 0.01-5.0 wt.% (pref. 0.05-0.50 wt.%) inhibitor comprises synergistic mixt. of at rusting, where inhibitor comprises synergistic mixt. of at least one fatty acid amide and at least one amine salt of 8-10 C aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, where ratio amide is derived from diethanolamine and a 12-20 C unsatd. fatty acid. Pref. salts include decanoic acid-tributylamine, decanoic acid-isobutylamine and decanoic acid-morpholine, and pref. fatty acid group in amide is tall oil acid or palmitic, oleic or linoleic acids. Compsns. are esp. suitable for use in steam turbine lubricating oil systems. Metal surfaces not submerged in the oil are protected from corrosion (by formation of a coating of the inhibitor) by the described system more effectively than by prior art compsns.</p> |
