Saw cutter for continuous welded tube - has moving carriage, saw blade on torsion resistant shaft and fixed DC drive, and swivel clamp jaws

The mechanism is intended for saw-cutting metal tube held on a carriage (2) which moves longitudinally with the tube as it emerges from a continuous tube welding machine and comprises a swivelably supported saw blade (27) and tube clamping unit (15, 19). To maximise cutting speed, the blade is carried on a shaft with high torsion resistance and driven by a d.c. motor, whilst the clamping unit has jaws placed in the direction of cutting force. One jaw (15) is fixed relative to the carriage and the other (19) is carried at the end of a lever (18) swivelling relative to the carriage and movable by an actuator (20).
