PURPOSE:To secure the bright plasma display for the pattern generating control circuit of the dot matrix type display unit by increasing the virtual scan frequency without increasing the driving voltage and the torque frequency for the plasma display element. CONSTITUTION:Pulse generator 15 generates the fundamental pulse of the timing to scan plasma display element 1. Then quick period pulse t1 supplied from generator 15 is applied to OR gate 12 along with slow period pulse t2 which is equal to the scanning period of one column passed through counter 14 at the slow normal action. Thus, the fact that element 1 of one column does not emit totally is detected at monitor circuit 4, and then inhibit circuit 8 and 9 are switched. Scan counter 8 and 9 are actuated by the output of circuit 12 to drive pattern generation circuit 6 and 7 to give the display patterns to X and Y driving circuits 3 and 2. Thus, the virtual scanning can be accelerated.
