<p>A decorative relief pattern is formed on a plastic panel by heating the panel to a temp. corresponding to the visco-elasticity range of the plastic and printing a pattern on the heated plastic using e.g. an embossing roller; the embossed area is then stabilised by immediately cooling it and the recesses are filled with a liquid or solid which adheres to the plastic; finally the plastic is heated to its initial temp. to release the latent state of stress in the embossed zones whereby the filled-in material rises above the surface of the panel to give the relief pattern. The embossed panels are used in conjunction with a backing and a wear-resistant top layer for floor- and wall cladding. The plastic is pref. PVC, PVAC or copolymers thereof and is pref. a closed or open cell foam.</p> |
