<p>PURPOSE:To prepare beta-amylase useful for the production of saccharides, in high productivity, by culturing beta-amylase-producing bacteria belonging to Bacillus genus, in a medium containing an organic nitrogen source treated with a hydroxide or a water-soluble salt of an alkaline earth metal. CONSTITUTION:Hydroxide or a water-soluble salt (e.g. chloride, nitrate, etc.) of an alkaline earth metal (e.g. Ca, Ba, Sr, etc.) is added to a solution containing an organic nitrogen source, e.g. meat extract, soybean casein, pepton, etc., and the formed percipitate is removed from the solution. beta-Amylase-producing bacteria belonging to Bacillus genus, e.g. Bacillus cereus var. mycoides FERM-P No.2391, are cultured in a medium containing the solution prepared above. The amount of beta- amylase in the medium is remarkably increased by the process.</p> |
