Release of the frictional engagement is effected by downward movement of a rod 7 having secured to one end a pin 5 which passes through diametrically opposed openings in the split sleeve. The telescopic column may be resiliently mounted by a spring 12 disposed in a casing 13 which is pivotally mounted about a vertical axis in a base 14. |
