MANUFACTURE OF THERMOPLASTIC SYNTHETIC FIBERS

PURPOSE:To reduce the smoking during the heat-treatment in the drawing or processing step of thermophlastic synthetic fibers, by applying an oil composition comprising a specific amount of a specified compound to the fibers during fiber making. CONSTITUTION:An oil composition comprising (A) a 12-18C monohydric alcohol diester of a thiodipropionic acid and (B) an ethylene oxide adduct of castor oil or hardened one with the number of moles added of ethylene oxide of 10-45 at a weight ratio of (A) to (B) of 4:1-2:3 is applied to thermoplastic synthetic fibers during fiber making. The method is particularly suitable for polyester or nylon 66 fibers requiring high-temperature processing steps.
