In bleaching cellulose, all the stages of the process are carried out successively in one enclosure without moving the cellulose. Each stage of the bleaching normally comprises the phases of (a) mixing the cellulose with a reactant, (b) reacting the cellulose with the reactant and (c) sepg. the cellulose fibre from the prod. of the reaction. The bleaching may also include pretreatment stages and post treatment stages such as washing. Generally the bleaching stage is repeated 5 to 6 times. Process uses a single vessel and avoids movement of the cellulose from one vessel to another at each stage of the process, as occurs with known processes. The bleached cellulose is useful e.g. in papermaking.
|
