<p>A pipeline inspection vehicle for detecting defects in pipeline walls has a system for supporting a number of defectdetector modules. The system consists of sledge units, each of which supports a module. A ring member carries the sledge units in a circumferential side-by-side relationship and is disposed around, but spaced from, the vehicle, to the body of which it is connected. Each sledge unit has >=2 links connected together for pivotal movement w.r.t. each other. One link carries the module whilst the other is connected to the ring. A spring urges the module carrying link outwardly so that it can resiliently engage the inner surface of a pipeline wall. The sledges are close together to ensure full circumferential inspection coverage. The system also a ccomodates small charges in pipeline diameter and the sledges can ride over welds and other such obstructions.</p> |
