The light e.g. for a miner's "hard hat" has a series of concave reflectors (32) spaced around the axis of rotation of the lamp socket. The socket carries a series of lamp elements, one for each of the reflectors. An aperture (31) is provided adjacent the rotatable socket (5), so that the socket is moved to bring any of the reflectors and lamps to a position adjacent the aperture. The lights are selectively connected to the current supply. The socket is shaped so that the aperture and reflector surfaces match and also shield any non-energised lamp. This provides a back-up light in the event of failure of lamp or reflector.
