Power supply regulator using impulse modulation - with diode and capacitor for controlling transient voltage changes and Zener diode giving reference voltage level

The regulator provides a constant voltage output. It employs a control circuit (7) for varying the supply pulse width in order to maintain the output voltage. To damp out voltage fluctuations in the load a compensating circuit comprising a diode (16), capacitor (17) and resistor (18) is connected to one output terminal (C). A sudden rise in output voltage charges the capacitor (17) and leads to an immediate change in pulse width. A fall in voltage is blocked by the diode, and a delayed change in impulse width follows depending upon the time constant of the capacitor circuit. The control circuit pulse width modulator has a ref. voltage input provided from the mid-point of a resistor (8) and Zener diode (9).
