The funnel element is arranged vertically and is relatively narrow so as not to impede flow in the rest of the pipe cross-section. At the sampling end of the element a sampling device sucks a sample of the oil out of the pipeline for analysis. The funnel element may taper hyperbilicly and can be either symmetrical or asymmetrical with respect to the axis of the horizontal pipeline. The inlet to the funnel element can be rectangular or elliptical, the sampling end being square or oblong, or circular or elliptical, respectively. Planar plates arranged in the pipeline upstram of the inlet to the element can even out the flow before sampling. The samples may be taken by a movable nozzle which can be swept across the face of the outlet from the element. The device is useful for sampling non-homogeneous, relatively viscous liqs. e.g. crude oil, which separate into laminate of different composition within the pipeline. A representative sample may be obtained with the use of the simple device, which does not cause a significant loss of flow energy.
|
