<p>An appts. for stabilising a drilling ship in relation to a reference on the sea-bed comprises a reference component which can be laid on the sea-bed and which is hooked on to one end of a cable passing through a guide on the axis of a well connecting the bridge of the ship with the water under the hull. The other end of the cable is secured to the bridge, and there are means of stretching the cable, acting on that end. The inclination of the part of the calbe stretched between the guide and the reference component can be relation to two axes connected to the ship, and the information can be used to control the ship's engines and rudder, so as to maintain the inclination at a fired value. The reference component consists of a cylindrical piece and a conical piece fixed on to the cylindrical piece. The cylindrical piece has two lugs opposite to one another. The well has two vertical opposed slides on its inner wall. In addn. it comprises a tubular part of dia. greater than that of the cylindrical piece, coaxial with the well in its lower part. The walls of this tubular piece have two notches, the upper ends of which open respectively into the lower edge of the slides, so that in pulling on the cable to bring out the reference component the conical part of the latter is engaged in the tubular piece and the two lugs are housed respectively in the two notches and are guided progressively towards the two slides as to centre the component on the axis of the well during the raising. The device can operate in very cold waters, there being no need for a diver.</p> |
