Flask for draining secretions from wound - has automatically sealed perforable portion in neck to permit sampling without destroying suction

The flask is used surgically for draining secretions from wounds, using suction through a flexible tube. It is fitted with a means of controlling the pressure and is provided with an area which can be perforated with a cannula or similar instrument for taking samples. This perforable portion is a rubber cap fitting over a reduced section forming a neck; the cap permits automatic sealing around the cannula and closes the perforation after its withdrawal. The reduced area may be in the bottom or the cover and the connection for the flexible tubing is extended into the interior of the flask.
