The contact elements are wound from wire, and are shaped like hollow rivets. They are manufactured by a unit, having wire guides and cutters, a winding mandrel and drive elements. The front end of the mandrel (6) is forked (7) and can slide axially within a sleeve (5) which corresponds to the length of the contact elements to be wound. The sleeve has a radial collar surface (24) at the projection point of the mandrel. The proportioned wire is held on either side of the winding axis, in a wire guide (20). The wire is fed to the mandrel at the collar surface, with mandrel and wire guide being moved relative to each other.
