A transport unit halting in the station (30) of a monorail conveyor, having a supporting frame (16) suspended on a suspension gear (14, 15) for receiving a container (20), is unloaded by a method wherein a pivot arm (34) mounted on a rolling platform (31) of the station (30) and having a driven friction roller (37) between rollers (19) of the supporting frame (16), is pivoted with simultaneous release of a detent (21). The friction roller (37) engages on the container bottom and conveys the container (20) onto the rolling platform (31). With the reverse direction of rotation of the friction roller (37), the container (20) is displaced from the rolling platform (31) onto the supporting frame (16). After the displacement operation, the pivot arm (34) is lowered into the position of rest. The pivot arm (34) can undertake the loading and unloading operations in the station in a space-saving and relatively inexpensive manner. <IMAGE>
