Horizontal drilling unit for advancing underground pipes - has paired pistons and cylinders, worm-gear and drive shafts in one plane

A wormgear unit and hydraulic cylinders working in the pipe are used in the horizontal compression drilling unit for pressing steel pipes in the soil without trenching. Two hydraulic piston-and-cylinder assemblies (5, 5, 12, 12) at a time are mounted in a plane passing through the pressure ring (3) and on both sides of it, one on each side to press the pipe (2) forward. The other two serve for axial to-and-fro movement of the wormgear (17) and its drive. All the hydraulic assemblies, plus the shafts of the wormgear itself, lie in the same horizontal plane.
