Electroslag casting of metal ingots for power motor rotor mfr. - by immersing less than half in molten slag and casting with interruptions over a set time, then completing the casting operation

A slag pool is formed in a cooling type casting mould and electrodes for heating the metal ingot are fitted in the casting mould and 30-50wt.% of total metal ingot is cast in the slag pool which is heated with the electrodes. The casting of the electroslag is intermittently stopped and in the course of a specified time, the residue of total metal ingot is cast in the slag pool and it is heated with the electrodes.
