The valve has a housing (10) with a cylindrical bore (11) forming the valve chamber. The plug type cylindrical valve member (13) has a tubular body (14) with an axial bore (15) and is an accurate fit in the chamber (11). The valve member (14) is closed at each end by plug type caps (16, 18) with support journals (22, 23) one of which (22) projects and has a squared end (32) for accepting a tool. The body (10) has oppositely situated openings which can be connected directly by the bore (42) in the valve member (14). A pair of grooves (44-44) extend from the ends of the bore (42) in opposite directions round the periphery of the valve member, (14).
