In order to damp vibrations such as are caused by traffic, in particular by heavy traffic on road and rail, a surfacing is provided, which has at least three layers. At least one of the central layers consists of elastic bodies (2.1) arranged in a row next to one another, which are rectangular, hexagonal or run round in a circular ring shape, square or rhomboid in cross-section and provided with rounded-off corners. The bodies engage on both sides in grooves of adjacent layers and are held by these. Between and inside the bodies are cavities (1.6; 1.8) so that the bodies (2.1), in the event of vibrations arising, are deflected into the cavities by deformation of their cross-section and thus absorb the vibrations. <IMAGE>
