The drum type double pad brake is for a lifting machine. The brake pads are swivelled by an eccentric, statically balanced, lever system. The pivoting axis of the levers (3, 4) held in the web (1) is arranged outside the straight line which forms extensions of the vectors of the reaction forces of the braking surfaces (R1, R2). The levers are arranged on that side at which the moments caused by the reaction forces and applied to individual levers are directed towards the drum (2). The drum outside contact face which forms the friction surface has a trapezium shaped groove with which engage wedge shaped brake jaws.
