PURPOSE:To attain efficient deodorization by using a lumpy catalyst of a special shape supported on an inorg. lumpy carrier having continuously foamed through holes to increase the contact area and speed of gas to be treated as well as to enlarge the diameter of a duct. CONSTITUTION:The lumpy deodorization catalyst is obtd. by supporting one or more kinds of cpds. of platinum group metals on a lumpy carrier having continuously foamed through holes of 0.5-5 mm, a min. diameter above 5 mm, a max. diameter below 1/8 of the inside diameter of a reactor, and the ratio of long axis L/short axis S=1-1.5. The platinum group metals include Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir and Pt. Bed 4 of the catalyst is formed on support 5 of reactor Rt provided with introduction duct 1 and exhaust duct 2. At this time, a reactor can be used having the ratio of duct cross-sectional area d<2>/cross-sectional area D<2> of lumpy catalyst- packed part 3=1/3-1/5. Accordingly, the linear velocity of gas to be treated can be increased, resulting in high deodorization efficiency. |
