<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter which gives high data rate communications at low cost by eliminating the need for an array of isolators or eliminating the need for high quality AR coatings, additionally, and to provide an integrated optical circuit containing the modulator array which does not require an array of lasers and can be fabricated at higher yields and lower costs. <P>SOLUTION: An optical transmitter 100 includes a drive laser 110, a 1xN splitter 130 and an array of modulators 150.
